Taken in the evening so the light was a bit low. They apparently like Bindweed... and I do have that, although getting on top of it now!
Always been intrigued by this type of moth, amazing wing structure.
What a weird-looking moth, Louise! Well captured though!
Bindweed? why not call it 'Morning Glory' - it sounds better then!
(I've got some cultivated types in the garden - Ipomeas - one is bright sky blue and the other dark blue with purple stripes.)
I used to have some Morning Glory - a lovely thing.
I have to admit that I do find it hard to hate Bindweed because it is a lovely plant. Luckily, most of my garden grows veg etc so little permanent planting... which makes it much easier to keep it in check. Of course, if the neighbours had tackled it when they got it I wouldn't have the issue now (everytime I get it in hand theirs re-seeds it, so-to-speak).
Nice pic of the moth. If you find them early morning they are so sleepy that they can be moved about.(As long as you are gentlle)
Morning Glory, isn't that the seed used for LSD? I seem to remember in 1969, everyone from college trekking down to Woolworths to buy the last of the Morning Glory seeds before they were banned from sale.
Oh yes, I'd completely forgotten about that, they are supposedly hallucinogenic. I just googled it and they have LSA rather than LSD.. close enough Hhm - so, why did YOU know about that, eh Rolf
I didn't at the time, just couldn't understand why everyone was turning up with packs of Sutton's Seeds.
