There were quite a few in the fields alongside The Ridgeway walk from Streatley towards the A34, surprisingly unruffled by walkers' presence as well.

nice birds rolf, i saw some on sunday at lightfoot pools, near to me. they are fantastically marked are'nt they. i took a very distant pic of one stood ontop of a mound of gravel. it looked like a lone sentry. .
Yes, I love them as well, they seem to have their own special character.

We had one visit us now and again in Ayr.
Apparently they're becoming a bit of a pest in SW Scotland - something to do with overtaking the Red Grouse in population, and causing there to be fewer of the 'other bird' for shooting parties... (No comment!)
