Put some Niger seed out the other day on the off chance and a Goldfinch has taken a liking to it. Strange that it is only one of them, the other is eating the Sunflower hearts.
The last couple of weeks my goldfinches have been eataing a small amount of niger but mainly it's sunflower hearts which is top of the menu
Lovely captures. Really beautiful birds
I have about 8 Goldfinches that comes to the feeder with niger seed in it, all day and everyday. They won't eat anything else lol
Cool to have that visitor - but it's gfunny that people always recommend Niger or the GFs, yet one prefers the sunflower - well, we all have our own taste :-)
Sandra - you have 8 - at the same time? Wow - that must look fantastic? What other visitors do you normally have?
Hi Louise.
Yes, I have had 6-8 goldfinches on the niger feeder and it is so comical to see them arguing over the seed. I also have a Hybrid, I was told is is a cross between a Goldfinch and a Linnet. It seems quite tame too.
I don't know how to add a pic to my reply for you to see it.
Hi Sandra, when you are replying, go to advanced, then manage attachments, you can then either search for them on your PC, or paste a URL from an online photo storage site.
Thank you Rolf.
I am now going to try and post a pic of the Hybrid that comes to my garden for the niger seeds. :-)
It is a tame little bird and does not fly away when I go out my back garden and stand near it :-)
Looks like a Juvenile Sandra, nice that you can get relatively close to it.
How wonderful, Sandra! As Rolf said, it's great that you can get so close. I'm hoping to 'train' this years cheeky Robin to come close. I stayed at a place in Devon once where the Robin would feed from your hand. He would only fly in at light-speed, snatch and fly away.. but it was still fantastic
