This is a quote from a Local Newspaper.
The newts especially are a protected species.Even picking them up or taking photographs without permission is punishable with a £5000 fine.
I didn't know. Wonder if anyone else on site did.
Yes . You are not alout to handle them any more.
It was stated on that wildlife program which was on before Animal Park. can't remember the name . It started after the Bill Oddie program.
You are also not aloutd to release a Bull Frog if you capture one but that has been a law for a long time

We get quite a few newts in our garden is this about a particular type of newt or all newts?
The Great crested Newt I watched every program and can't remember the name of this one
Didn't know that, but then I haven't seen a Newt since I was a youngster.
We had many newts in our family house pond . I had a huge pond at the top (My son Matt dug that out ) and a small wildlife one at the bottom and I made a ravine between the two and water circulating from the bottom pond to the top and down the ravine. I do miss it.
Newts come and go they don't live all the time in the pond
The Great Crested Newt is one of the most protected species in the British countryside. Legislation protects it against killing, injuring, sale, and also prohibits disturbance (including handling) and damage to both its terrestrial and aquatic habitats.
Nature's Calender was the name of the program. They were talking about the handling of crested newts being against the law
