Whistling Ducks

These Ducks are Wigeons and the male has a loud explosive musical whstles The female has a deep rough abrupt growl. The male has A yellow stripe along his head and white band on wings. They have lovely slate blue beaks

I'll have to keep an eye out for them, they are a nice looking bird, just listened to the male call, quite strange.

Thy are very shy birds any movement and they all move further out. They don't seam to squabble like mallards. Yes very strange when one normaly associates a duck with a quack. It's the lovey slate blue beak that also makes them attractive.

Many birds visit the UK in winter from Iceland, Scandinavia and Russia. With large numbers of wintering birds at a few UK sites it is an Amber List species.
