Eugene Ely takes his Curtiss pusher airplane off
the deck of USS Birmingham on 14
November 1910.
It was the first airplane takeoff from a warship.
On 18 January 1911, Eugene Ely lands with the same
plane on USS Pennsylvania, making this first
landing on a warship in history and a historical
event.
Notice his "life vest" (bicycle inner tubes!)
It was a loooong flight this first one lol

The certainly had some guts in those days, love the way he's wearing a suit under his flying jacket..gif "Smile")
It looks more like it's falling rather than taking off... resembles some of those "Red Bull flying comp" things.
They were so fragile, the pilots really were very brave... but well-dressed brave
