Captured this little Pipit at Bowling Green Marsh
They have amazingly long hind claws which shows in this pic even without expanding which if you do really is large.
Bit worried about Tree Pipit in February Beryl. Summer visitor usually first seen in April.
Pete.
I'm not 100% sure I think it's a tree Pipit because of the wing pastern.
I could be wrong. it has a different wing pattern to the others type Pipits Also down here here is a very warm climate and anything is poss.
If it is another type of Pipit I can change the title
Yep. You are right Pete . The hind claws are a real give away. I was looking at the feather pattern but it seams they are very similar in looks apart from the long hind claws
I have reset the name to Meadow Pipit
I think a wise decision to call it Meadow Pipit Beryl. I take note of all your comments on this bird. Pipit's are really difficult and its certainly not for me to tell people they are wrong but rather throw in my views and either move on from there or stay as you were. We can hopefully all learn from this kind of approach.
Pete.
They are very much alike . The Rock Pipits much bigger and has more white round the eyes.
But as you say it is much too early for the Tree Pipit. Also I think the Meadow Pipit varies just slightly unless one is a female and causing confusion
