Not really been too close to one of these before, as Butterfly photography is relatively new to me.
Also took photos of another which has a different coloured body, not sure if this is also a Small Skipper.
Excellent captures Rolf
I think they are Small Skippers There are some large ones in the forum so you can compare the markings.
Yes, the first ones are, but the ones in the second post have a different coloured body.
All Small Skipper Rolf and all excellent images.
Looking forward to your return from France (bet you're not) with a 'bag full' of butterfly pics.
Pete.
I was unsure about the second Skipper, so referred it to a butterfly site, they lean toward it being an Essex Skipper, there are definitely some differences, particularly on the antennae.
Hopefully I should be able to upload quite a bit while I'm in France Pete, may even take my desktop PC and monitor with me, as working on the laptop is tedious, particularly trying to photoshop large files.
Ahhhh......better retract my 'All Small Skippers Rolf'.
Living up here in the frozen North I hadn't considered the Essex Skipper which of course we don't get. Must take a look at the books on separation details.
Pete.
There are several Skippers. I was told one of the best ways to tell is by the antennas. But I din't know too much about that
Here is a good site

Yes, that's where I got the confirmation from Beryl.
