    This is my type of bird. Not because they are particularly beautiful,more that they are slow enough for me to keep up

    I'd call the plumage detail in this pic pretty impressive Ian and a nice plumage too. I presume you mean the facial expression of the Starling isn't 'particularly' beautiful.

    I was referring to its facial features Pete. The beak looks a bit on the dangerous side.

    Starlings are not un-pretty. Some times they can look really lovely They can mimic as well and be taught to talk.

    You are quite right about the Starlings ability to mimic Beryl. I once heard one from our kitchen window which thought it was a Curlew with remarkable accuracy.
