Ringed Teal - Callonetta leucophrys

Ringed Teal is a small duck of South American forests. It is the only species of the genus Callonetta. Usually placed with the dabbling ducks. this species may actually be closer to shelducks

The first photo of the female was taken a Paignton Zoo standing on a wall. It is a free duck and not enclosed
The male was taken last year at Kelsey park. I thought it was a Wigeon but have since found it to be a Ringed Teal male. This is also a free duck
They are probably escapees from a collection

Fascinating, Beryl!

I'd have guessed a type of Wigeon too - similar to the American Wigeon, but more handsome!

Actually I uploaded it as a wigeon and neither myself or Rolf noticed the difference until I was looking for some thing and came across it again, did a double take and though I had a partially albino wigeon Spent nearly all day researching . then when I found it realised I had the female as well. So am really pleased
