    Default Gulls.

Had a couple of hours at Leighton Moss again today. Here's another bird to look out for and make sure we don't think its a Black-headed Gull......the Mediterranean Gull, in front of the B H Gull. Look for the 'drooping' blood red bill if its an adult, with no black in its wings, though this one does have some because its not quite adult, but sub-adult.

One sure to turn up sooner or later Rolf. It will be exciting to hear from you when you find one. They are reasonably common these days, though I use the term 'reasonably common' with a little caution.

A birder recently said to me quote....they're all over the place these days....unquote, to which I replied quote....yes until I start to look for them they are....unquote.

    Nice capture Pete.
We some times have one here on the Estuary and the Laughing gull . Peeps come from all over with digi-scopes to record the sighing of the laughing gull

    Yes the Laughing Gull Beryl.

Don't want to bog you down with details which won't interest you but please listen to this......Breeds from Nova Scotia south along the North American eastern seaboard to the Gulf of Mexico as far as Venezuela, as well as in the west Indies. It moves south to winter from North Carolina to northern South America and on the Pacific coast from southern Mexico to Peru.

So whats one doing where you live you have to ask. The only one I ever saw was last year at Marton Mere a very good 'birding' spot in Blackpool of all places. The many mysteries of bird migration......amazing creatures.
