Had another great couple of days out around the Exeter area. The long-eared owl, red-breasted goose and the normal suspects were much on show, as were the avocets, some pics attached

Apart from seeing Avocets on BBC's nature programmes, I've only twice seen ones in 'real life'.
The first time was a couple of years ago in Zeeland, and the second was just a few months ago at Keyhaven - where they're not too common.
What beautiful birds they are, and how well they are shown in your photos!
Probably the bird was busy searching for tiny fish in the water, but I'd like to think he/she was also having fun with the waves!.gif "Smile")
Yes, they really are attractive birds. The Exe estuary, and especially the Topsham area, is famous for them (fortunately!) and they're rather photogenic. This particular one was a loner and kept getting spooked as we walked up and down a path nearby, so taking off and flying a few metres before settling down again - we were trying to locate the red-breasted goose amongst the flock of maybe 6-700 Brent. Frustrating but ultimately successful.
Excellent shots Bob, can't remember having seen one, must make an effort.
