The equipment I use is a Canon 30D with Sigma 50-500mm lens. I also have a garden hide from which I take most of my pictures.

We have been thinking of doing the same rolf. When we bought some from the shop I could never even hold the container they were in. But now I can even open the plastic container and put them into the dish. They don't frightnen me like they used to do. I even share my hide with a couple of containers of them the. I could never hold one though. I would be very interested how you get on with breeding them rolf would save us hec of a lot of money

Lol. My cat used to sit in front of the tank. Looked like she was watching tennis and avery copule if minutes a little mew would sound then she would sit there with paws crossd over and round the corner trying to get at them she'd get so cross and it was funny. I wonder what she would make of meal worms and beatles.

I love it when cats are confused. I have to admit to purposefully playing bird calls when the cat is sitting by my computer... I love her confusion - I am such a mean thing Luckily, despite being a stray who had to live on birds she would rather have human-provided food. She is interested in birds, but more as a watcher - she sits on the roof of my porch (she has to access it from the window of the computer room so can't actually get the birds) and watches them. Every now and then I hear a little 'I see a bird' noise drifting in through the window... it makes me laugh because there is no way that she could actually get one from there. But she would much rather watch from there that from the garden itself.

Great minds think alike. I have one of those corner units and Chocky used to sit up there and I would do exsctly the same with all sorta of sounds. When in the family house which wa huge and we had a masive garden and I had lots of birds. I nailed an Icecream box to the top of fence post at the bottom of the garden and put all the shucks in it and my white cat Dillicus used to sit under it and wait for the birds and it was like watching a Slam Dunk.
She just used to jump straight up in the air and put her paw over the box
She never did get one it was too high they saw her coming
We are going to get uinto trouble for hijcking this thread.

When was that , just now? Is she OK?

My cat Chocky (Siamese)died after 12 years. Dillicus (Moggy) was poisened, I heard her aout side howling out side she died in my arms . totlay dreadful. I don't have a cat now. Wizpurrz (burmese) had to be re-homed , she was so vicious every time she played I had to have antibiotics because she infected me. The vet said some time a cat goes back to it's traits.
Chocky is on my web site in a little video. We are being very cruel to her
    But she didn't suffer

Yep, she's ok, I couldn't find any damage (other than lost fur), in fact she looks rather pleased with herself for defending her territory:-)

I'm sorry about your cats - you don't seem to have had a lot of luck. My first one (Siouxsie) had to be put down at the age of 13/14 due to old age but that wasn't too bad an age, my present one took refuge in my garden before I decided that she needed a home - she is called Evie because she is such a softy and I thought that she needed a girlie name.
I did have a tom called Elliot for a couple of years from a kitten (my flatmate just didn't get around to having his cat spayed), but he was such a softie that I couldn't bear how much he was attached to me - I only called him Elliot because I couldn't see any more masculine name suiting him! I couldn't even go to the loo without him sitting outside and crying! I eventually found someone who was suited to such a cat and they also had a garden ( which I didn't at the time).

My present one is a lovely little thing who is very patient - I can carry her without her ever fighting so she is easy to move out of the way, and she will even let me wipe her (gungey) eyes or cut her nails without fussing. She is very easy. Apart from ALWAYS SITTING WHEREVER I WANT TO WALK! :-)
I enjoy the company... I just wish that she didn't use my newly dug garden as a litter tray :-)

    Glad she is OK.
Chocky was 12 when she died but I still miss her. I live in a small flat now so it wouldn't really be fare to have a pet.
I love cats as much as I love birds.
This thread might get back to meal worms but thay don't grow as fast as one can change a subject.

I'm glad that I ate a long time ago or I wouldn't be responsible for the results !

Mind you, the way my cat has started to catch birds I may well have to start growing these things to give the birds a head start. The cat has had 5 so far this season (never caught so many before). I have 4-6 sparrow nests (haven't counted) and there are others in the nearby houses, but even so that's a lot of birds.

Interesting. I didn't know what the adults looked like. How long until you get something to feed the birds with?

They should start laying eggs shortly, then about a couple of weeks until they hatch to the first small mealworms.

@ Chocky, I only posted the pictures because you said they didn't put you off your food.

Actually the beetles I can handle( metaphorically speaking) it's the grubs I can't.

    You are Joking ?
I would rather tie a piece of string round them and let them spin
Think I might make up some poetry about this.

Well I thought about some poetry but insects and grubs don't come to mind. Not mine any how, though A.A. Milne did write a lovely little poem about a beetle called Alexander. So I think I will leave it at that.
