Olympus Evolt E520, and borrowed lenses and flash. Fuji Finepix S7000 for Macro A chair :)

    Default A selection of mini-beasts

I wandered around the garden yesterday and caught loads of tiny insects & spiders (yep, still using the macro filter). Even the bee was a tiny little thing, and the spider in the web was less than 2 mm. It's amazing how much life there is around you if only you get down on your knees

EDIT: Just found my spider book - the spider in picture 5 looks to be A Xysticus, possibly Xysticus ulmi, but it's the usual issue of no spider seeming to look exactly like your photo

Louise, you say, 'It's amazing how much life there is around you if only you get down on your knees'... Well, that's OK for you young things who haven't got arthritis!

Great photos! I especially like the tiny bug on the seventh pic - whatever it is!

Actually Catherine, I wasn't using 'on your knees' literally - I have rheumatism that for the last 5 weeks has stopped me from walking anything more than a couple of steps for most of the time.... but I do sometimes take a stool out with me to the garden and either sit and lean... or use it as a prop to get up and down. So I look even sillier than usual For the last few days I have been able to walk and lean... but if I got to my knees I wouldn't get up again, although I suppose it would enable even more shots

Rolf - the third one (spider) - really annoys me that I got his legs in focus rather than his eyes as that would have been a fantastic shot - but when they are so small and very bouncy (this was one of those scary, jumpy ones) it's nigh on impossible to focus correctly
