Despite their reputation, I do like Jays, this one was carrying this acorn around like a prize, perhaps looking for a good place to bury it.
Great photos of a really beautiful bird, Rolf!
I've been watching Squirrels bury them in the garden lawn (much to Glen's annoyance!) and Wood Pigeons stuffing themselves with acorns as they make the Oak tree branches sway wildly! The ground is covered with them. I think it will be a good autumn for acorns!
Yes, a lot of burying going on at the moment, haven't seen the Woodies actually eating the acorns, must be a sight to see, as must make a huge lump in their throat.
Or maybe working out how the hell he was going to swallow it? :-) Great catch, very lucky to see that.
That is a wonderful capture, Rolf! It sure seems up to search for a really good hiding place for its acorn.
