The news that only seven pairs of hen harrier have successfully nested in England has been greeted with concern that this magnificent bird of prey is ebbing toward extinction in England for a second time.

Very sad that people are still shooting and poisoning them, when I go over to France, I regularly see them low flying over the fields and it is an awsome sight.
Obviously the punishment for doing that is too soft.
Easy remedy;
Higher fines, PLUS choice of either a minimum year in jail, or at least the same working with BTO/RSPB to help stop the crime being committed.
The offenders might then realise the stupidity of their actions. If not, the suggested punishment should be doubled, with much higher fines for those repeat offenders.
It's been going on for years and there will be some people who believe it is the right thing to do, no matter what others say, was also reading about an Osprey being shot.
