Gulls on the Thames

This was taken on the Thames in Henley on Thames the other weekend. There were so many of them around taking bread off the water, made for some great action shots

It was indeed, I still need to work out how to use the free software to make the most of it. These are the first pictures I have ever shot in Raw, so still learning

Lovely shot, I like it. I have dabbled with RAW, but I couldn't see what difference it made to the processing - it didn't seem any better than from JPEG... so I need to read up on it first

I think it really comes into its own when shooting dark colours, like a Crow or black Labrador, it certainly has brought out the contrasts in the water.

A jpeg file has already been part processed in camera by a variety of presets. A RAW file is just that, exactly what was captured at the time of taking the shot. Nothing added and nothing taken away. In most cases a jpeg is fine, its when conditions are not "average" that RAW comes into its own.

Exellent capture

There ia a didfference with RAW. I found it a much better photo. Unfortunatly my camera doesn't work fast enough for action shots in RAW so I went back to fine.

I agree RAW slows down the Frames Per second. I only use RAW fror cetain photos.

I had my Camera set on RAW and Fine and both come out side by side that is how I found such detale in RAW.
Then I set it to RAW and yes my camera can't do action in RAW. Some cameras can

Thanks for the comments and about Raw.

I have not noticed much of a difference with The d90 taking action shots in Raw compared to JPEG. Will have to do a little test.

I am into landscape photography more than bird photography, although I enjoy the bird photography very much. I will sit for hours to get the right light for a landscape, RAW is fine for that, you just can't do that with birds or any other creature. Unless you can afford to buy the latest pro digital camera with all its long range lenses. (That's the same as four people travelling around the world, first class or a couple of Ferrari's)...............stick to jpeg for birds and all the other furry things. It works a lot faster on most cameras, make that on all cameras including the Pro stuff
