Was leaving the Teal hide at Lavell's Lake, noting much going on apart from a super little Reed Warbler appearing and disappearing in the opposite reed beds and looked up to see this handsome chap in the high branches.
Well-caught, Rolf!
Nice shots - especially that last one.
They are such shy (or furtive?) creatures and I know they fly off as soon as they see you. (At least the New Milton ones do!)
One made a fleeting visit to our garden a few days ago, but it was on the Maple, off the Maple, on the feeder pole, off the feeder pole, on the back fence and down on to the ground behind it before you could have even said all that! Although we often see their white rump as they fly across the road in front of us, I don't think they like being out in the open.
Here was another on attempting to prise nuts out of the feeder at the Bittern Hide.
Yes, 'furtive' suits the Jay better - a sneak thief if ever the was one.
We see them on the Water Meadows near us, but they fly deep into the woods when we appear.
Yep, really slippery customers.
