Violales are an order of flowering plants, mainly found in tropical and subtropical regions. The majority of species can be either shrubs or small trees. One exception is the violets; these are typically herbaceous with a worldwide distribution. Families of note in this order include: the cucumber, papaya, begonia and the unmistakeable passion flower. Some species produce edible fruits that are commercially cultivated.
