Quite a few of these at Pagham. Am sure it is a rare visitor 'White Rumped Sandpiper' frm North America. Glad if anyone can confirm or deny as it is my first Picture of a Rare Bird.
I'm not sure it's a "White Rumped Sandpiper", to my eye it looks very different. It's hard ID'ing when so many birds look similar and different at different times (and when you aren't greatly experienced, like me!), but to me it could (for instance) be an autumn plumaged - Wheatear. They have the white eye stripe, the patterning on the wing, a brown colouring on parts of the breast, and shows a blacktipped, white tail when in flight, and can frequent coastal shingle (like this one http://iberianature.com/lucyblog/wp-...n-wheatear.jpg) . But it could just as well not be.gif "Smile")

Thanx Ladylo & co, Now i too thinx its a Autumn Plumage Wheatear! We saw very many of these in varying stages of Plumage, the one shown by me is most Typical.
Behavior wise, Definitly a Wheatear, Running on Ground and Perching on Posts etc.
I'm glad that Billy added his thoughts - I have limited actual experience of a lot of birds (including this), and as per my last ID attempt at the "guess the bird" thread, I definitely don't get it right every time
But I'm sorry that it's not a rare bird - you must have been very excited

We, Me and a Long Term Pal who Lives on the Coast, were quite Excited to see These new Birds, They were very Bold and not Shy at all! We also Spotted, Shelduck, Curlew, Oystercatcher, Sandpipers, Redshank, & Teal.
Hmmm, Oystercatcher, interesting name, Oysters dont take much 'Catching' do they??? How about 'Oystereater'?
LOL - good point, I've yet to see an oyster 'legging it' along the beach ;-rolling A nice set of birds you got to see there, and nice to be doing it in company if only because more eyes spot more birds.
