    most of my efforts are digi-scoped, using an opticron hr66 scope, pentax optio v15 digital camera and homemade adaptor.+ a panasonic lumix fz28

    great close ups. a few years ago i was in bulgaria. one particular day the sky was thick....and i mean thick, with hawkers. it was a spectacular site.

    Great photos, Beryl!

    Could you tell me if this one is the same type? It seemed to be holding its wings at a strange angle. Maybe it had just acquired them? (There were lots of Damselflies and Dragonflies at Exbury on Wednesday!)

    That is the female Emperor. The largest recorded in UK.
    The male is Blue and older females are green and blue

    Gosh! It didn't look at all like the one we rescued from the conservatory, being all green and brown with no blue at all! It was much smaller than the earlier sighting too.

    I was sure it was the same as yours here!

    Have changed the title o this thread a the dragonfly is a newly emerged Southern hawker and thus much lighter with bi-coloured legs. It is actually a Teneral
    As it reaches adulthood it's legs will turn black and a will turn a richer darker colour.

    And here he is Almost and adult one week later . I captured this today in the same place as the newly emerged one above. so it has to be the same chap as they are extremely territorial
