OK thanks for this Beryl. I already use this UK Moths website which is excellent......problem is there are hundreds (over 2,000 actually) of the creatures but I just have a feeling this could be a Large Yellow Underwing which isn't showing its underwing. Does that make any sense to you Beryl.

Oh. as you said micro I only looked at the little moths
Well I reckon it is one of the Snout/Fan-foot moths, there are very few other species which have that length of nose.
Sorry if I misled you Beryl with the use of the word 'micro' but it was a small moth but small isn't micro is it. Thanks for your suggestion Rolf......off to look it up, back soon.

I am pleased to report that this is a Light Brown Apple Moth which was apparently accidentally introduced into the Uk in Cornwall in the '30's from Australia where it is a pest to the apple trade.

I posted it on a website for the experts Rolf. Answers almost instant, then you go to UK Moths and look up the details. I always admire people who can accumulate such vast amounts of knowledge on subjects like moths were there are in excess of 2,000 of them. Searching for them for yourself is a nightmare......where do you start.

Well I did buy a guide, as much for answering any queries on the forum as anything else, but the sheer number of similar variations, is mind boggling.
