    Default Hello from SE London

I've just discovered this new forum so thought i'd share a photo with you.

This photo was taken near the Thames Barrier in south East London it looks like a green woodpecker to me but i'm no expert. He was around for about 10 mins and was taken only last week.

Not the best photo i know, but it was taken from the fourth floor window and he just would'nt stay still

Certainly looks like it Chris, you'll have to invest in a bigger lens on the camera. The yellow flash between the wing tips on the tail and the flash of red on the head would tend to back up your opinion.

They also seem to love digging around in lawns, as ants are a major dietary item.

    Hi Chris

I just noticed you are on line for the first time since I joined several weeks ago now. So I looked to see if you ever contributed to the website and found your Green Woodpecker. You were so lucky to find a bird like this from a fourth floor window in SE London near the Thames Barrier......Lucky you!

Any more pics to let us see?

    Pete.

Yes. That is definately a Green Woodpecker . Well spotted Chris
Harder to capture than the Great Spotted Woodpecker The Green Woodpecker tends to blend in so much that it's hard to focus on it
