Would you believe it, after all my gloom about the disaster for butterflies in the North of England - and probably elsewhere - in 2008, I am still able to contribute a picture of the Comma if not one in pristine condition.

I'm so glad you posted this Pete it's an excellent study, a lovely shot, thanks for sharing

I actually had one of these in my garden today so you have saved me looking it up. As far as I'm aware it's a first for my garden. It was with not one but two Red Admirals. They were on the flowers buds of an ivy which is growing over a trellis and they were there for most of the afternoon, my shots of them are rubbish though because I was facing the sun

They are still flying I shot one a couple of days ago. There are two broods a year
The second brood emerge in late September or early October
