Black ant (Lassius Niger)
You may have noticed, it's 'flying ant' time. Here I have a few photos of the ordinary ants, a number of male flying ants, and also a queen flying ant. Unfortunately the Queen ant is more of a silhouette, but it's better than nothing!! They are all hard to photo as they won't stay still. I suppose that's why you use the term 'antsy'
I forgot to say, these are based in my compost bin... although I do have other nest!!!

Luckily they are not the rather tetchy red ants. My gardening message board has had loads of questions about ants in compost heaps this year... I suppose due to the bad weather i's been one of the dryer places for them. My compost bin was too wet really, but they were still in there, so I suppose it's a matter of 'it may be wet... but it's dryer than out there!!'
Salt did you know desolves slugs with out causing to much harm.
I used to go out on to the drive and find enormous black sugs and salt the the lot. (ugh)
The problem with salt is with the volume of slugs in the garden in this warm, damp weather, the garden would have just too much salt for anything to grow. I suppose it would take away the slug problem as there would be nothing here for them to chomp
Yes. you need to get them on concrete before salting them. Leaves rather a mess. Or a small bucket of beer. I think they are atracted to that.
