Where was that Joe? I know there have been problems with people tipping unwanted Terrapins into wildlife ponds.

Wow, it MUST have been a surprise! I do wish people wouldn't do stuff like that.

There are two Terrapins in the Swan Pond at Culzean (NTS) and have survived there for over 7 years, despite some really cold winters.

The staff don't know who dumped them there and cannot catch them to take them elsewhere. They don't seem to be doing any harm to the environment or other wildlife there. (I'm still looking for a pic I took of them there about 4 years ago....)

Had a bit of a search and found it!

Taken at Culzean, Ayrshire - on the Swan Pond, 28th April, 2007

At least there were two together here, so it wasn't too cruel for the Terrapins. When I spoke to the ranger, she said they didn't tell folks about them as they didn't want others to join the pair. As to their effect on the environment, the creatures were 'being monitored'!
