Captured in the local park
really nice pictures beryl, they are cracking little birds. it's amazing how such small creatures make such epic migration... and year after year.
Beryl, you know how much I hate doing this and how I hate the 'smart Alex' but would you consider this being a Willow Warbler.
Pete.
He has black legs ?
i did'nt pay too much attention to the legs, merlin, but i would tend to agree with you. they are pale for a chiffchaffs. well noticed.
Must just have arrived over here
I find these two birds very difficult to tell apart, particularly as the Chiffchaff can sometimes have lighter legs and vice versa the Willow warbler.
A lot arrived in our area today Beryl and I saw five at two locations. It's a pretty reliable ID characteristic Chiffchaff 'black', Willow Warbler 'pink'.
Pete.
The only way I can tell the difference is by checking the wing length when poss. - much longer with the WW.
I understand that leg colours can vary too, and the bird in the pic has a hint of an eye ring, doesn't it? That could mean Chiffchaff - but then... I haven't a clue really!
Nice little bird anyway!
Thank you Catherine
