Default Bird sound on Thames, Chiswick

    Hi,
I heard this strange bird sound the other day and have heard it since then as well. It was on or near the Thames in the Chiswick area, I had got up for the dawn chorus and I recorded the sound at about 5.30am in the morning but have heard it now and then at other times too. It sounds a bit like a squeaky toy, with two notes. I'm pretty sure it was some sort of water bird, the only bird I could see that I thought could be making the noise was a coot, but I know they don't usually make this sort of noise. I've attached a zipped Windows Media Audio file. Can anyone help please? Thanks very much.

Hi bellbird. Welcome to the forum.

It sounds like it could be a Coot. They do have two calls and also a chattering sound .
This sounds a bit like their common call in a distance. I can't be sure though.

Yes, certainly sounds like a Coot to me.

Have converted it to MP3 for you.

OK thanks very much. I rather hoped that it would be something a bit more exotic, but there we go! Thank you.
