    Default Mint Moth - Pyrausta aurata

    A small (18-22mm) but sumptuously coloured creature that really stands out despite its size . Although the second shot is not clear enough, I have included it since it shows more of the lower wings.

    Funnily enough I've been trying to get a reasonable shot for the last 2 days (lots in the garden), and whilst sorting through some old photos today I found the clear shot from June 2008 - what a coincidence!

    Yes they are attractive little moths, can't say that I've seen one.

    You're not kidding Catherine, I've got a big field guide for macro moths, but there are three or four volumes on micro moths yet to buy.

    It all just shows how much we don't see unless we look for it - as far as I was concerned if it was a tiny moth it was the same tiny moth...now I (and my bending back) know different
