Dorney Wetlands, Berks/Bucks border

The Dorney Wetlands have been developed on the course of the Jubilee River, the flood relief system for the Thames at Maidenhead.

Dropped down there this afternoon for the first time, to see if I could get a photo of the Bearded Tit which has been seen there in the reed beds, unfortunately not sighted. There was a very active Cetti's Warbler calling in the reeds, but whilst I heard it several times, didn't get to see it.

Saw quite a few Reed Buntings, lots of Tufted Ducks and Mute Swans, plus there were two pairs of Pochards, several Great-crested Grebes, starting to try out the mating dance and what looked like a pair of Heron, flying up and down the river together.

Certainly a worthwhile place to visit for birds, limited parking, some which isn't height restricted.

Looks a very interesting place, Rolf - and you saw and captured quite a variety of species too!

Lucky to see the Heron together - maybe pairing off?
