I think this is a Linnet in winter dress. They are not quite so reddish in the winter but I maybe wrong but the tail looks like a Linnet's
Yes probably a female, but the photos don't show enough, particularly of the wings for positive ident'. The Linnet is most likely due to them being here all year round, but could also be a Twite.
Does a Twite have a tale like that too? I don't think it' as long and it's not black with white is it?
They are quite similar in many ways, but the photos aren't clear enough. It probably is a Linnet.
It's the tales . They are similar but the linnets tail seam white with black on the outer and the Twite is vise verser . Either way I'm quite pleased as I don't think I have ever caught a good photo of a Linnet and never of a Twite.

The Twite has a yellow beak and the Linnet has a grey beak in the winter
