    Really good, Joe!

Is it trying to eat a blue Damselfly in the first one?

(I know it's ovipositing in the others...)

Here was one I saw at Exbury the other day..

Nice shots Joe, does look like the first one is dining whilst laying.

Is the one in your shot alive Catherine, looks a little low in the water.

Yes, she was having a meal, I noticed the movement and looked through the lens and realised so took the shots.

She was very much alive, Rolf! She was resting on the 'skin' of the water, and flew off afterwards.

I couldn't get a good pic because I was at the very edge of the pond, had to lean over to take the pics, and most were spoiled by the leaves in the foreground.

Here are a few other pics of her - ones I'd discarded before you asked!

[There are several other insects floating or moving on the water. The Pond Skater is insectivorous, but only eats small insects - although he does seem to be trying to hold on to her wing in the last pic!]

It just goes to show that discarded pics are good.
