    Default Juvenile Female Blackcap

There's a story to this shot.

Sitting at the computer I could hear the Sparrows having their normal little barney, but from the corner of my eye I could see them fluttering outside the window rather than in the trees or up on the roof. Suddenly there was a "THUNK" as one of them hit the window. Under this window is the flat roof of the door canopy. I quickly looked out of the open window(which was why I was distracted by the noise) to see this this poor little thing flapping about with the head drooping horribly as it moved about - all watched by a male Sparrow just a few inches away. A minute or 2 later the Sparrow flew off to join his large group of mates a short distance away in the tree... all watching closely,

At first I assumed it was a young Sparrow who got the wrong end of one of their frequent family squabbles until I looked properly and realised that it was the wrong colour and the wrong pattering. For quite a while she sat still with her back to me so I couldn't see her well. I tried to look from the next window, but as I didn't want to disturb her I couldn't open the window or even pull the curtains back much.

Since she had her back to the open window, I set myself up to wait and see what would happen. For about 15 minutes she just kept perfectly still other than making one call (I could have cried for her!), but she did eventually turn about (hence the photo), but since I was already set up and still, I didn't disturb her.

She stayed another 15 minutes until she flew off. I never knew that Sparrows could be so aggressive with other birds - it would explain why I have so few other birds in the garden, although I've never seen them have a go before. I hope she'll be ok.

That's a shame, hopefully she was just stunned by the impact.

She went from being completely immobile for 15 mins to actively looking around. I didn't see her fly off, but she was obviously feeling better by the end. She was just lucky to have fallen only a short distance, and in a cat-protected place.
