Thought someone may be able help on a technical point.

The result of this image is that it is 'burnt out' on the birds underparts. Although its underparts are white the camera hasn't dealt with the situation at all. Also as you see the bird is ringed (interesting) and the rings on the left leg are white over pale green thought they appear in the image as both white a clear indication that it is burnt out.

I'm sure if I tried a little harder the camera can be ajusted to deal with this kind of problem but the question is......can I deal with it on the computer ?

Well spotted. I think Rolf can advise on a program Pete.

Unfortunately, when an image is burnt out to that extent, there is no detail left to recover, it is easier to recover detail when under exposed.

With my SLR, I use spot exposure and concentrate on the brightest part of the bird, it will often leave the darker parts underexposed, but that can be dealt with using photoshop.

Thought this might be the case Rolf, but goes to prove that despite the 'many' years doing photography (most of it very seriously) if you don't take notes on the technical details you simply learn nothing in this regard.

I find all the technical side very difficult ot take in - I'm a slow learner But, because digital is both cheap and quick, it's much easier to learn than with film. Still hard for me, though
