Really interesting you have shown us the image of your Pied Wagtail Rolf. White Wagtails are beginning to arrive from the continent, I saw two on Tuesday. A classic example of the species is easily recognised by its pale grey upperparts as opposed to the black back of our Pied's. Otherwise to the casual eye they are pretty well the same.
So, now all of a sudden Rolf, you have three species of bird to separate from their cousins.

I've got more than that Pete, still running through my photos of the Linnet flock from yesterday, going to add a couple to the thread to see if someone can pull an id for a Twite or Redpoll.
Yes, well thats even more interesting Rolf because heres yet another bird (the Linnet) which is easily confused with its cousin the Twite, sometimes known as the Mountain Linnet, which is where it breeds in the summer but spends its time in the winter months mainly on our coast. I saw c.60 recently.
Iv'e seen Twite with Linnets but don't think you will ever see the Redpoll with either of the others.

That's interesting Pete. Some times birds can be confusing if you don't see them together.
I think we have the white Wagtail on the forum some where.
