Olympus Evolt E520, and borrowed lenses and flash. Fuji Finepix S7000 for Macro A chair :)

    Default Poppies

These came up in my garden for the first time in 4 or 5 years. If if were just the one plant I would think that it was maybe a seed brought in a birds feathers, but there are a number of them - so they must have been dormant just waiting for me to dig up that patch as I did this year. Hardy little beggars!

The phenomena you've experienced is the same as the soldiers of WW1, the shelling in Flanders turned over the ground so much it brought the Poppy seeds up and they turned the fields red, that was the inspiration for the Poppy Day Appeal.

Only thing is that these aren't Field Poppies, but Opium ones (Papaver somniferum), Eddy......

Are you sure they just got there 'in a bird's feathers', Louise?

P.S. You should read this; Opium poppy - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Opium Poppy is an amazing plant - apart from being beautiful and the source of a drug!
