Chaffinch

Went outside to try to capture the juvenile woodpecker I had spotted, he was too low down on the branches and no clear shot of him when this female brambling landed. It was raining at the time and they are not briliant pics but they show the beautiful markings of the brambling.

Babs. I don't want to become the one who tells everyone about mis-ID's but this is a Chaffinch and I just thought you would wish to know this.

For your interest the Brambling is a common breeder in the upland Birch forests of Fenno-Scandia.

Thanks Beryl, I remember seeing an adult in the garden earlier in the year but I never spotted him since. At first I thought this maybe a juvenile but I think it may be Mrs Brambling but not 100% sure.

Oh thanks for that Pete. I first considered Chaffinch but this one was more coloured than my Chaffinches, I also checked my RSPB book and it also pointed to Brambling especially the yellow marking on the wings. But no that's fine Pete glad you put me right. Hopefully I can change the title to the right one

I thought it was a juvenile Goldfinch. I have never seen a Chaffinch with gold feathers

It must be all that good food I'm feeding them

Although it has gold feathers I think it is a Chaffinch it's patterning is different to a Goldfinch
Any way they are excellent captures
