Havsörn White-tailed Eagle Haliaeetus albicilla
It is nice to see that this bird is on it´s way back to normal life again !
They are real BIG, take care of Your dog when it is about! I saw one last summer and it blackened the sky

Yes, saw one last year and was in awe of its size, particularly the wingspan. Also known as the flying barn door.
Happy to split the prize Catherine
OOOOh, thanks, Rolf!
Now what will we do with it?
It is time for a new bird !
That's obviously a Mistle Thrush, Crister!
Turdus viscivorus.... I hope it is anyway!
I know it was too easy
Dubbeltrast Mistle Thrush Turdus viscivorus
Well done, the winner takes it all (by ABBA)
Crister, they're never too easy!!!
It allows me to experience that good feeling to think I may not be wrong - again!
- and I like Abba too!
Well, let us have a look at the Friday Bird then
That looks like a rare one, perhaps a Dusky Thrush from Siberia - Turdus naumanni?
Close I must say but not close enough
What about a Northern Waterthrush - Parkesia noveboracensis?
I've just been looking at a great pic of one on this page!
Photo of the Year: 2011
Of course, it's just a guess!
I see now - to my horror that I mixed up all the thrush that I have.
and that Rolf´s answer was correct - sorry for that Rolf (and Catherine still looking and searching)
So it was really !
Bruntrast Dusky ThrushTurdus eunomus I was fooled by the Siberian and the last name in Latin but I guess that we both mean the same bird.
OK ?
It's all right, Crister!
You now owe us both a drink when you see us!
(Pity Rolf is such a swot!)
That was very kind of You
A Friday bird for You all
At first thought it might have been a Kite, but now think it looks like one of the Buzzard family, how about Rough-legged Buzzard - Buteo lagopus
Well, I will gladly await answers from C - You know The winner takes it all
I'll go for Long-legged Buzzard - Buteo rufinus
(If only as I've found the Swedish name for that is Örnvråk - which looks mighty like the name started below the pic!)
By George I think you could be right Catherine.
I think the Lady is cheating
Reading my Swedish name.....
Well, it seems to be a good way to go
Örnvråk Long-legged Buzzard Buteo rufinus
Strange name for a bird
Crister, ladies don't cheat!
They just use their intelligence in a different way!
of course - sorry about that lol
It´s a sunny Monday and temp is raising to -8
It's a Redpoll and from the pale colouring, I would guess an Arctic one - Carduelis hornemanni
Well done Sherlock
Snösiska Arctic Redpoll Carduelis hornemanni
While I collect some new fine questions for You all I give You this one (easy but nice bird)
Can I have a guess?
Blackbird (f) - Turdus merula
I HOPE............................
Well, Dr Watson What can I say more than Well done !
Koltrast Common Blackbird Turdus merula
Thanks, Crister
- And I'm quite happy at being 'Dr Watson' rather than 'Sherlock' - he's boring maybe, but not as weird as the other guy!
(Sorry, Rolf!)
I´ll start the winter season with an easy one
Well it's definitely an Owl.
Not one we get in the UK, would be nice though. I think it's a Great Grey Owl, Strix bebulosa.
Sure is Rolf
It is a Lapland bird so, perhaps, in Scotland ?
Lappuggla Great Grey Owl Strix nebulosa
Nope, Scandinavia, Poland and Russia, not had one in the UK.
This next one is more common, me think !
Well aside from giving a little too much of the Swedish name chris. , I do know this one, it's a Bewick, or tundra Swan, Cygnus columbianus.
I´ll be happy to support some "Swedish" information - if You guys keep it up You will soon be fluently speaking the language of the Vikings
Mindre sångsvan Tundra Swan Cygnus columbianus
In English this name (mindre) has nothing to do with the English or Latin name !!
So, what did Sherlock do ? Find a bird, checked it´s Swedish name and said Aha, I found it(Archimedes)
Anyway Rolf, good work and nice fiding !
BTW Rolf is a common Swedish name - You got some Viking blood ?
LOL, possibly, my Dad was from Hamburg, so not too far distant.
At last - Monday again !
Looks like a Collared Dove Chris, Streptopelia decaocto.
Yes Rolf, it is !
Turkduva Eurasian Collared Dove Streptopelia decaocto
