We better hurry short week and a loong hot weekend
We better hurry short week and a loong hot weekend
It looks very small - but that may be because the rock is so BIG!
Could it be a Redshank - Tringa totanus?
The beak looks too long for a Redshank, how about a Black-tailed Godwit? Limosa limosa.
Yes, it is not a stonechat
Rödspov Black-tailed Godwit Limosa limosa
Well done again !
STONEchat? Oh, yes, Scandinavian humour as it's on a stone, Crister!
Now, you'd not have guessed that, Rolf, had I not given it a go!
You see, that poor wee bird had been standing on that huge, muckle stone for 4 DAYS completely ignored by everyone!
Swedish humour can (sometimes) be rather funny !
It is a very nice weather so I don´t think anyone (but You) had a look at that poor bird.
And I did so out of kindness, Crister, as it seemed so lonely stuck out there on its own!
You'd understand if it happened to you!
*Think a wee yellow van might be coming this way to collect me now......*
After a long break (Sunny and hot!) it is time for a new bird.
Now, that HAS to be a Mistle Thrush, Crister - Turdus viscivorus!
It IS, isn't it?
Well, it is, really
Dubbeltrast Mistle Thrush Turdus viscivorus
Good finding !
Sorry for the delay, been busy and simply !!! forgot to post a new bird.
I'd say it's a Penduline Tit - Remiz pendulinus.
Sure looks like one Rolf
Pungmes Eurasian Penduline Tit Remiz pendulinus
Good finding !
So, what could this be ??
erm a bird....
Lapwing, also colloquially, Peewit. Vanellus vanellus
Yes You are right, both of You !
It is a bird and also a bird named
Tofsvipa Northern Lapwing Vanellus vanellus
NB The Northern... wonder what the Southern looks like more sunburn I think.
Here is a Weekend bird for You all !
pink footed geese Anser brachyrhynchus
I can´t see no foot but I am sure it is not that pink
Sorry but it is not what I want to hear.
Anyway - it was not that far away !
Anser fabalis bean goose or is it the white fronted one??
It is hard to tell
Tundrasädgås Tundra Bean Goose Anser fabalis rossicus
It is a friend from the Russian side of the world !
So, Friday again
Think You need a hint !
It is a very common bird !!
Eh'm... I think it might be a Song Thrush - Turdus philomelos ?
(Though thought it looked a bit small at first. Are Scandinavian STs smaller?)
Could be on diet ?
Taltrast Song Thrush Turdus philomelos
In Swedish we call it a talking bird
My reasoning, Crister, was that we've been told that many Blackbirds we have here in winter are migrants from Scandinavia, and the way to identify them are by their darker bills and smaller size - so with those also being of the Thrush family, I wondered if Song Thrushes over there might be smaller too! Honest!
Don´t think so, if they stay here and get fatter and fatter they should be bigger as well
Anyway, here is a new bird, big or fat
Looks like a Merlin - Falco columbarius.
Indeed it is Rolf !
Stenfalk Merlin Falco columbarius
In Swedish we call it a Stone Merlin
Here is the Friday bird as I will be off duty this weekend (well sort of, will pop in)
yellow wagtail ??Motacilla flava
Or Motacilla cinerea - Grey Wagtail?
(Then maybe one of us will get it, Laura! )
or blue headed wagtail that should cover most of them
Well, wagtail it is
Forsärla Grey Wagtail Motacilla cinerea
In Swedish it means that You could find it in a river bank
<Well done !
Gosh, it is (at last) Monday
It's the very distinctive Shelduck, Tadorna tadorna I believe.
My, Maureen, you are some fast lady!
I'm nippy me.
Indeed it is !
Gravand Common Shelduck Tadorna tadorna
Well done Maureen
