Actually, having had Dutch friends for nearly 50 years, I have got to know quite a lot of their language. (Well, you have to know what they're saying about you, don't you?)
I remember camping in Menton many years ago. A Swedish family had their tent next to us and I was aware they had no bread as what they said sounded very similar to the Dutch version. So we gave them some of ours and got their respect in return. (You see, few Brits bother to TRY to understand the lesser known Euro languages, so miss out when trying to work out written clues - or try to overhear conversations!)
