Got the colour clue Chris, as in Black, but cannot find another bird with a similar cap, pretty much all of the others have a black area which drops below the eyeline.

    What about - Black-capped Woodland-warbler (Phylloscopus herberti)?

Mind you, I can neither find a photo nor description of it, but I AM trying!

DONīT overdo the black in this hint, it is in a way (of course) black

but what is black ?? Snow is a white thing,,,,,,,

Love those hints, they get deeper and deeper - soon not even I can understand them

    It looks for all the world like the little Blackcap shown on the second row here;
    Gallery 2009
    - but you said Rolf was wrong......

(It was the lighter grey behind the 'cap' which threw me - but the little bird shown on this link seems to have that too...)

Rolf, why have you not got the right answer yet?

Blinkin' heck - that's a difficult one. It looks like a Blackcap to me. So I tried Christer's clue and thought of any thing that was black (coal, night).. and that didn't help

Even the Sun has it spots

There is a possibility that I managed to post wrong picture. It has happened before and could probably happen again Problem is that I can not be sure until I get back to work as I have all pictures and answers there.

IF there is a mix-up I will sort it Monday, still it was good to see all those guesses, specially those that followed my hint

Still hoping I am right. Else I will forgot all about this guess and go on just like nothing really happened.

Like pouring water on a goose.

    Morning all. Sorted now

Mixed the pictures, due to too look-a-like name and almost the same() bird...

So, we have a right answer from Rolf and here is the bird that should have been posted, now You have all the hints so it should be rather easy.

Sorry for the mix-up, I am sure it will happen again

LOL, well done Chris. That one certainly appears to be a Coal Tit, although I have never seen one with such a large black bib.

Just to keep you busy, Crister - Lapwing - Vanellus vanellus

(Rolf, the CT is probably a male bird, trying to impress the ladies!)

    - As an aside, male Great Tits down here have much broader black chest stripes than those in Ayr. The females here are more like the males up north, whereas the females in Ayr usually had a very narrow chest stripe, or one which was only an inch or so under the beak! Coal Tits down here are similar to their Scottish relatives!

Not seen one of these in the UK, as are only in the North of Scotland, but I think it's a Crested Tit - Parus cristatus.

All I can do for now is bringing You all a new picture.

It is not easy to give hints this time Think south, like Mexico

The story behind this bird is that they think it has followed a ship over the Atlantic
and now is waiting for it to return Seems to be only one seen in Sweden

    Just beat me, Rolf!

    Can I go there too?

Interesting to read that it's the national bird of Mexico*, fearless and, although smaller than our Buzzards is sometimes called the Mexican Buzzard. Other names include Mexican Eagle too!!!

Found it here; TrekNature | Mexican Buzzard Photo

    * Elsewhere - The national bird of Mexico is the Crested Caracara (Caracara plancus - different Linnaean name?). Not to be confused with the Mexican Golden Eagle (Aquila chrysaetos), which is found at the Mexican flag and coat of arms.

    - Now, not a lot of people know that!
