Well, like I wrote - this is a special breed
There are so many Gulls - and I'm hopeless at identifying them!
Any chance of a clue, Crister?
Sure, it is named from the area of Italy !! (me think) lol
OK - now off to search for a map of Italy online....
Now, Crister, I've tried the name of every Italian area and Googled for anything like those... but no luck
Never mind. I'll try again later!
Yep, it has really nothing to do with Italy - it is more (like) in the area. LOL it is not easy to give a clue without not "clueing" too much.
In Swedish it is named after it´s head - pic is not that accurat
Well could perhaps be a Mediterranean Gull? Larus melanocephalus
Sure is, in Swedish it´s called a Black headed gull
Svarthuvad mås Mediterranean Gull Larus melanocephalus
I was misled by your 'Swedish-style' clue, Crister!
Part of Italy indeed!
Well, I guess the Mediterranean IS around it, but you got me looking at every region of the country....
Never mind! I won't be put off. Next time..........
Well, that will be the day
Try this bird then !
Looks like a Buzzard - Buteo Buteo - to me...
[Can't tell if he's Rough-legged (as you cannot see his legs for the snow), or white eyed (as they're shut!) - so I'll just go for the 'Common' species!]
There - I SAID I'd not be put off... even when I'm wrong!
and You SAID it
Ormvråk Common Buzzard Buteo buteo
Well done, in Swedish it is called a snake buzzard
Oh, thank you! Thank you, Crister!
Time for a new bird then ?
Here we go !
Female Sparrowhawk - Accipiter nisus
OK- next please! (I hope!)
catherine you might be on a roll, i think the bird looks cold...
The Lady is hot !
Well done Catherine, not much to go on there.
I've seen that backwards glance so often, folks! She scares ME with that look too!
Catherine (alias 'the Hot Lady')
Oooh that gave me a laugh, Crister!
(Had to have another try as I'm won't be able to be online much over the next week or so - such a busy life.....)
Sparvhök Eurasian Sparrowhawk Accipiter nisus
Again Well done !
Here is the next one !
Actitis hypoleucos common sandpiper maybe?
Not that "common" for sure !
No more ideas on this birds name ?
I'll have a go at Purple Sandpiper, a non-breeding adult. Calidris maritima.
That is more than close Rolf
Skärsnäppa Purple Sandpiper Calidris maritima
Nice bird and well done !
well done ralf, ohh i was on the right lines, yahh thats improvement for me...
Well here is a new bird for You all !
Not that easy as the pic is far from clear
goshawk, first instict...Accipiter gentilis never seen one, lol so pure guess
It is good to have instincts
Well done Billy
Duvhök Northern Goshawk Accipiter gentilis
wow thankyou i think ill guess more ofton... such a cool bird..
Well done, Billy!
This one is easy but a nice bird and I have one visiting every now and then
kookaburra id say but i know im totally wrong but its what it looks like.. kindof...
Cracking bird, don't get them in the UK though, Nucifraga caryocatactes - Nutcracker of the Corvid family .
What a lovely bird! I've never seen a Nutcracker - even in a zoo/aviary.
Do they NEVER call this way, Rolf?
Just been checking Catherine, apparently we do get the occasional visit, Northern Scotland, East Coast England and apparently South Wales.
and in my garden
Nötkråka Spotted Nutcracker Nucifraga caryocatactes
Looks better in reality
As I don´t have a lake in my garden I seldome see this bird visiting
I'm going for American Wigeon (f) - Anas americana
I THINK.....
P.S. Why no lake, Crister? With the weather you've had this winter, you could have a skating party on it if you had one!
