But is he not right this time?
But is he not right this time?
I believe he is.
Well, I just misunderstood the translation I guess, Rolf!
Crister, I didn't get a chance to try again. Rolf was right in there with his answer.
Maybe he should be given a handicap?
Well, this is no Golf game just for fun so You better rush in Your answers !
Tallbit Pine Grosbeak Pinicola enucleator
The Swedish name Tall means Pinetree so now You know where to find them
This next bird loves water
Goosander - Mergus merganser
(Was that quick enough? - Or even right?)
Yes, that was fast and it was (also) right
Storskrake Goosander Mergus merganser
Well done !
Oooh, goody!
So where is the next one then?
It is here :
Well, that's too easy, Crister, as we get them in the garden at times!
It's a Fieldfare - Turdus pilaris
(Yes, I'm getting to learn their Latin names from this... slowly, ever so slowly....)
Now, another one a hard one for Rolf, please!
Easy she said with a big smile
Björktrast Fieldfare Turdus pilaris
Maybe this one is too easy ??
Oh, I know that one, but why don't the others take part..?

Billy, you might see it on this page..... The RSPB: Birds by family: Tits

I think you have it dead on. But only our Swedish Bird Meister will be able to confirm.

Kattuggla Tawny Owl Strix aluco

In Swedish it is named Cat Owl
One more while we are on the subject

Sorry Billy but I must say no !
LOL, OK, I'll go for the Hawk Owl - Surnia ulula, amazing bird.
Well, it looks like a pretty cross Owl to me
I say it looks more like a Hökuggla Northern Hawk Owl Surnia ulula
Bingo goes to Rolf
see i love this thread, i learn stuff all the time, worship the quiz master...
I should really keep quiet, but I'm having a quiet giggle here at that last post!
Billy's right. Bird should all be named because of the way they look, or because of something they do! (I'm thinking of Green Woodpecker, GSW, Pied Wagtail, etc. here)
Yes, we can (perhaps) see now why that bird is called a Hawk Owl, but why are Gulls, Robins and Pigeons so named? Where is the logic there?
However, be assured, we still DO learn the names of many by checking Rolf's IDs, Crister...
Bless You Billy
This one is special !
