Took this on my mobile, so unfortunately it is only a small part of the framed picture, but this vane on the British Charolais Association building at the National Agricultural Showground was superb.

Here's one from the Reading Bowls Club in Kendrick Road.
This one was in the centre of Farnham, some sort of municipal building I presume.

these are the vanes from my trip to guernsey and alderney
Vale church, Seen from Vazon bay, Alderney Museum,Private garden in Alderney, House in Guernsey * 2
Well done Joe. Nice selection
Nice ones Joe, we are getting some pretty unique ones in this thread.
A wonderful set. It's amazing to think that a lot of people would never lookup and see them... and I count myself in that number - I often spot something ages after I should have
Found this on my walk yesterday in some ones back yard on a shed
I wasn't going to upload it as apart from being difficult to get near most were out of focus until I realized I had also shot one or two in raw.
This photo was shot in raw and the clarity is really some thing compared to th others shot in jpg . This has photo been slightly lightened but that is all
And this one today at the top of the main raod hill in Exmouth
Unfortunately I had to take it against the sun a I couldn't get to the other side. But it has turned out seeable
A couple of good ones there Beryl, like the Pheasant one in particular.
Thanks Rolf Yes I like the pheasant .The other is just an arrow but one w haven't got . I must have walked past it a dozen times but this time a Dunnock was singing and I turned to look and brought my attention to it
This vane is above the clock tower Tatton Park in Cheshire
That's a cracker Babs.
Nice one Babs. Well spotted
Spotted this one at Port William in Scotland, you can just about see the S on the front of it
Nice one Babs
Another unique one Babs, well done.
A couple from London - neither very interesting I'm afraid. Left is from Kings Cross Station, Right is from St Pancras Station. The stations are next door to each other.
Well done Louise. Nice ones
I claim the very first weather vane located in Andorra on the site!!
Spotted this in a back garden of a house whilst out for an afternoon wander
Really badly placed as it was sheltered on 3 sides!!
This one is on the nice little church in Ordino about 10 miles from Andorra La Vella.
Anyone want to hazard a guess at what the bird is?
This one is across the border at the rather nice walled town of Villefranche in France. Its obviously a proud French cockerel - shame I couldnt get high enough to photo it properly
Ross, maybe the folks in Andorra don't want to know the weather..
Could that church tower in Ordino have a hen on the weather vane?
I bet the Villefranche ones was put up by a rugby fan!
Nice ones Ross.
Not very exciting, (London doesn't seem to do exciting when it comes to weather vanes!), but I also included a blue plaque for the famous and influential 19th century clown. Grimaldi. As you can see, people are still watching him
The vane is on the old part of the hospital and the plaque on a new bit.
Great show of vanes every one. I particularly like the portable one at the bottom of the stops
A few weeks ago I mentioned story of the fox and the plum tree with respect to Galashiels tradition.
Well the Galashiels town crest depicts a fox trying to reach the ripe fruits on a plum tree. The motto Sour Plums (locally written soor plooms) refers to a Border raid (of which there were many!) which happened in 1337, during which a party of English soldiers were taken by surprise whilst gathering plums. The brave English lads were savagely murdered by the locals
The story allows me to wind up the locals every year when it comes round to the annual Braw Lads celebrations - I tell them the whole shebang is actually a celebration of wilful murder of the English soldiers!
They get very annoyed with me!
Anyway back to the main topic. This is a picture of the weather vane on top of the council buildings in Galashiels. As you can see its a rather fine depiction of a fox trying to reach the fruit on a plum tree
Nice story Ross, love the vane as well.
Yes . Lovely vane.
That IS a lovely vane, and a great story - thanks for telling us. I suppose the motto of the story is : "don't mess with a scotsman's plums"
ANyone in the Wadebridge area??Apparently Wadebridge Town Hall has had a new steam loco shaped weather vane presented to them to commemorate the 175th anniversary of the first trains on the Bodmin-Wadebridge line in 1834!
Saw this one on Saturday
What a wonderfully different one. I don't think I've ever seen a coloured one before. Still, there aren't many Lego-built buildings about
Nice one Joe, a vane made of Lego, cracking.
Here's one from an old School between Caversham and reading.
Nice one Rolf. Well done
The whole thing sis stunning Rolf, the roof shape, the 'distressed look' and of course the vane. Fantastic.
Mind you, I hope no bird has tried to sit on the top or it would have had a bit of a surprise
