Ooooh! I think I know this one -
Red Breasted Merganser - Mergus serrator
yes You do !
Småskrake Red-breasted Merganser Mergus serrator
Well (and fast) done !
Here is an easy one for the weekend (Have a good one all of You)
So, it was not that easy ?
It is somewhat tricky to name this bird....
Looks like a cross House/Tree Sparrow with its grey strip on head and black mark on cheek, but I'll go for Tree Sparrow juvenile. Passer montanus.
Well, yes and no
It is a mix of two birds. Passer Montanus is one and the other is a ..... ?
Passer domesticus?
That´s what I wanted to hear
Pilfink X gråsparv Passer montanus X domesticus
Nice done Rolf
This one is not a mix !
Yes, isn't Rolf such a swot!
Well, this one sort of reminded me of the small Scops Owls we've seen a couple of times at the side of the F1 track in the rain at Interlagos, but I'm going for
Little Owl - Athene noctua, as its beak is so close to its eyes..
(Now, come on, everyone else! Give it a guess before Rolf gets home from work! )
Sorry but I must say no !
Small it probably is, how about Pigmy Owl? Glaucidium passerinum
Sparvuggla (Glaucidium passerinum)
Yes it is , one of the smallest
Oh, well done, Rolf!
I knew it was a small Owl, but didn't go small enough there...
(Must remember that one for another time. He's lovely! )
Yep a beauty, very sad eyes.
As an aside, did you see this little fellow at the trackside during the Brazilian GP practices? He was lovely, and it's the second year running he has appeared during heavy rain. Brazilian Grand Prix in pictures - Telegraph
I understand he was a Ferruginous Pygmy-Owl - albeit a very wet one!
No, hadn't seen that, perhaps he's a GP fan.
At last it is Monday again
Time for a new birdie
Well, being an 'early bird' today, I can guess 'Dipper' - Cinclus cinclus
So, of course, we have a new one for You all !
I reckon it's a Grey Phalarope - Phalaropus fulicarius.
Sure is Rolf
Brednäbbad simsnäppa Red Phalarope Phalaropus fulicarius
Swedish name tells it has a wide beak or is it broad ?
Got this little bird here, wonder what it is ??
AW! It's one of my winter favourites, a Brambling - Fringilla montifringilla. (What a mouthful for such a tiny bird!)
Yes it is !
Nice done
Bergfink Brambling Fringilla montifringilla
In Swedish we call it a mountain bird
Here is a Friday Bird
It's a beautiful male Teal Chris. Anas crecca.
Yes it is
Anas is Latin for duck and crecca is from what it sounds like
Swedish name is Kricka, from the sound
Poor birds, we have -17C in the Stockholm area
However I think this bird is used to it
Just a guess... Arctic Tern - Sterna paradisaea?
Well, it was a good guess but not good enough!
Crumbs, that's a difficult one Chris, the wing markings are different from Gulls, will peruse my books later today.
Yes, but the picture is very good.
No idea I'm afraid Chris.
I will give You a Minute more
Where are the Ladies when You need them ???
Last minute call
Looking at the red feet, I'm going for Black Headed Gull - Larus ridibundus
(However, that doesn't fit with your clue at the start, Crister, as they are not so common up north.....
Perhaps another clue then, please - and one more 'Swedish minute'?)
The "Swedish Minute" is a hint that could be to some help, really

OK, the only bird I can find which is close, bearing in mind the patterning and perhaps it being small (minute) is the Little Gull - Larus Minutus
