Well the first one I think is a juvenile Cuckoo - Cuculus canorus, the second looks like a Bunting, I'll take a guess at female Black-headed Bunting - Emberiza melanocephala.

Gök Common Cuckoo Cuculus canorus
and
Svarthuvad sparv Black-headed Bunting Emberiza melanocephala
Good work Rolf
So we face a Monday again
and a new fresh bird !
Looks like a young Green Woodpecker to me... Picus viridis ?
Well done Cat
Gröngöling European Green Woodpecker Picus viridis, lost it´s color that´s all
Way to easy for the Pro´s of this site
Well, I'm not a 'Pro' - in any meaning of the term!!!
So I'm going for Aquatic Warbler - Acrocephalus paludicola
(Or is the reed a 'red herring'?....)
Vattensångare Aquatic Warbler Acrocephalus paludicola
Well done Pro
Let us see if You can id this lovely bird ?
It's a Spotted Crake - Porzana porzana, I believe.
I think that Rolf has hit the nail on the head.. well better than hitting your thumb
'Spotted Crake'? Well, I knew it WASN'T a Water Rail - or Bittern....
Well spotted Rolf
Småfläckig sumphöna Spotted Crake Porzana porzana
So it is time for the regular Monday Bird
First, I have to try Tree Pipit - Anthus trivialis
- then Rolf can put down the right answer!
Not yet lol
I'd have gone for Tree Pippit as well.... better take another look.
With that reddy bit under the chin (and the pale legs rather than the Thrushes' dark ones), how about a Red Throated Pipit - Anthus cervinus?
I'm still thinking 'Pipit'... so I'll try the Rock Pipit next... Anthus petrosus
After all, maybe that's seaweed around his feet.....?
Hmm, You better look at the next tree to find this birdie
Well, this is my last try...
'Next tree'... is that a cryptic clue....?
Oh, well, I can't think of what else it might be, so I'll just have to go with Meadow Pipit now - Anthus pratensis
(You see, I don't get out much, Crister! )
A clue it was but not that cryptic. Find a tree with no pipits in that´s all.
OK, different tack, is it perhaps a juvenile Redwing? Turdus iliacus
Good call - I did consider the Redwings (yeah, yeah, yeah... and the rest!)
So, are you going by the ro (with the kind of umlaut above the 'o') as being the start of the Swedish word for 'red', Rolf? Now that's cheating - but smart!
But if that's the case, it's a very manky-looking Redwing surely - IF that's really what it is!
And I'm not a sore loser....
I was looking more at the eyebrow Catherine.
Well, I have to admitt that I was barking under the wrong tree
Made a mistake and blame it on the stressed week I just had.
2 sickcalls meant that I had to work for 2 during this week. (can´t be age, can it?)
So, let us go back a few posts:
"Catherine
I'm still thinking 'Pipit'... so I'll try the Rock Pipit next... Anthus petrosus "
Forget what I said after this post
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
We start all over again (sorry)
Well it was close Catherine but not close enough
BTW here is Rolfs birdie just so You can compare, they are almost the same.
Rolf - eyebrow? H'mmmm!
Crister - old? So you're not the young guy in the photo?
* Goes off to learn Swedish names of birds now* ........
Yep, here you go, juvenile Redwing.
It isn't the one that Louise said earlier is it Chris? http://www.thamesvalleybirds.co.uk/m...html#post46187
Well done, Louise! (Beat big bro' there, eh?)
Guessed wildly, Crister? As if we'd ever do that....
So, on with the next one!
Sure will
This one is a juvenile ....?
Not that easy I think
ROFL re the previous set of posts... age is obviously getting to you Christer... as it does to all of us
As for the new birdie - a face that only a mother could love, especially those 2 spike on his head :rolling
But - it has a lot of yellow and what looks to be quite a solid-looking beak... so I'd start with suggesting a Greenfinch (Carduelis chloris).
Very well done I must say !
In swedish it is called a Grönfink.
After a very cold Monday morning I will ask You all what this could be ??
I am sure that You know what those birds are named !
However
I can be wrong, happened before I think.
Think it's a Bean Goose Chris, Anser fabalis.
