Well it's a Redpoll, I think it's a Lesser Redpoll Carduelis cabaret.
Well it's a Redpoll, I think it's a Lesser Redpoll Carduelis cabaret.
I think your right there Rolf. Didn't notice the red patch on the head
I'll go for Arctic Redpoll Chris Carduelis hornemanni.
Pete.
Are we all looking at the same picture ?
You better have a closer look
Nope, still make it a lesser Redpoll, have you got another view of it Cris?
Female Rose breasted crossbeak _ heucticus ludovcianus ?
After doing some digging I must say that it (of course is a redpoll) and that the name You suggested is almost right. There is a longer name but it might just be some extra - not beeing a pro in this art I will let You decide if Your answer is correct or almost correct
and a new, better picture as well.
In my book this is a " Brunsiska Carduelis flammea cabaret "
Yes, just had a look and it would appear that flammea is the northern race.
Good then it is settled
So now we have this wonderful bird to name !
This is the biggest we have in this family
White-Tailed Eagle - Haliaeetus albicilla ?
Legs are too thin for an Eagle, so looks like it could be harrier, in which case the Marsh Harrier is a big boy. Circus aeruginosus
Maybe I was too kind when I said that this is the biggest among this breed
Brun kärrhök Circus aeruginosus, a very good looking bird.
They will return to Sweden in March That´s soon.
We need all the help we can get Cris.
Think this one is going withou any help
Yellowhammer- Emberiza citrinella ?
Indeed Chocky, that was fast
Gulsparv Emberiza citrinella
Thank you
This is not what You think of at the first view ( I hope )
Blue Jay - Cyanocitta cristata
Last edited by Chocky; 03-02-2009 at 06:39 PM.
It looks like a Woodpecker, but not the Greater Spotted as it has too much black on the side of the head. I'll take a guess at the Thee-toed Woodpecker - Picoides tridactilus.
That was good Rolf, indeed it is a Tretåig hackspett Picoides tridactylus
How could You count it´s toes from that distance
Well done
Well done Rolf .
I thought of a woodpecker but the blue colouring threw me out .
From woodpecker to ...... ?
Rook - Corvus frugilegus ?
Yep, looks like a juvenile, as the adult beak is completely light.
Well spotted Chocky
Råka Corvus frugilegus
Thank you
I am running out of birds but soon we will have more coming in as the world gets around for a new fresh spring
So, why we wait, what is this ??
Rock Pipit - Anthus petrosus ?
I can see the rock but not the pipit
Sorry but No
Twite- Carduelis flavirostris ?
Ahh, found it I think, the rock sent me the wrong way. Is it a Woodlark? Lullula arborea or pallida?
Yes Rolf You did find it !
Trädlärka Lullula arborea
Got this picture for You.
Cormorant - Phalacrocorax carbo ?
Shag's Phalacrocorax aristotelis
Pete.
Right I thought the tail was a bit short. I first thought of Guillemot not enough white and then thought Cormorant but not enough white on the face and short tails but forgot about Shags
Well done Pete. I'm sure you are right
Thanks Beryl but better wait for confirmation from Chris before we have the party!
By the way, haven't forgotten the prehistoric pick of me on the bonnet of the Vanguard pickup but have to find the damned thing first......doing my best Beryl.
Pete.
Yes we batter had
It is Party Time, we have a right answer
Toppskarv Phalacrocorax aristotelis
Well done Pete, I was hoping that this small picture would give You some problems, but no - fast and accurat as always.
