I caught them nibbling at the Lavender seeds early yeaterday.

Didn't realise they ate Lavender, interesting.
Its the lavender seeds which attract them I have often seen them feasting on those - mostly after frost, as I think that may soften the seeds. I can only imagine that the lavender oils make the seeds not only nutritious but flavoursome!
That is the only plant I have seem birds cram on in numbers for food - apart from Linnets on the seed pods at Keyhaven!
