Did you know that male Carder bumblebees do not sting.?
In fact they don't have stings. This is a male. You can usually tell a male by the yellow hairs on the face
We had a nest of those in our rockery in Ayr. They were never aggressive though.
I used to call them 'Teddy Bears' as they were cuddly-looking bees with light, furry bodies!

The Wool Carder is related to the leaf-cutter. It has a square looking face
