Nice thing about being on open land in France is the big sky and sunrises, here's one from Sunday morning.
How lovely, Rolf!
Now I know where you are, I can understand your seeing the Short-eared Owl! Lucky you!

Ah yes, first one I've seen in the wild and great that it's one of the day hunting birds.
Well here's today's efforts, was well over 100m away, so not very clear, but excited nonetheless at actually getting a record shot. The view through the scope was a little better.
Brilliant! (Both the experience and the shots you got!)
Was it looking at the holes in the turned-over earth, hoping to spot a movement? I guess it would be easier to see a mouse/other there as there is no vegetation to hide a little furry creature. (Feeling sorry for his prey now.....!)
Apparently they'll perch on the ground after a feed, not always in a tree, but of course somewhere where something can't sneak up on them.
Great programme on BBC2 just now - a Natural World one re Super-powered Owls. A couple raise a pair of Barn Owl chics from eggs Should be on catch up programmes when you return! Hope someone can find it for you if you are not home in time!
